General Statistics

• 96% of alleged perpetrators are known to their child victims.
• 69% of sexual abuse cases involved girls and 31% involved boys.
• 60% of physical abuse cases involved boys & 40% involved girls.
• 69% of physical abuse cases resulted from inappropriate punishment.

Niagara Statistics

• FACS Niagara responded to 5,842 concerns from the community regarding the care and safety of a child (ie risk of abuse or neglect)
• 4,236 families in Niagara received child protection services from FACS
• 97% of the children served were able to remain in the care of their families with
  support and assistance
