REPORTING ABUSE
Everyone, including members of the public and professionals who work closely with children, is required by law to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect. If you have reasonable grounds to suspect that a child is or may be in need of protection, you must report it to a children’s aid society (CAS). CASs have the exclusive mandate, under the Child and Family Services Act, to investigate allegations of child abuse or neglect and to deliver child protection services.
Family and Children’s Services Niagara (FACS Niagara) is the CAS for the Niagara Region.
SUPPORTING VICTIMS AND FAMILIES
The goal of PECAN (Partners To End Child Abuse Niagara) is to bring together the various agencies in Niagara who have programs to support children who have been victims of child abuse. This comprehensive list of programs and supports has been created so that any member of the Niagara community can access these resources when services are needed to support traumatized children or their non offending family members.
By accessing the Programs in Niagara section of this website, you can find out about the various supports that are available to you so that you can create a plan for increasing awareness, a strategy for prevention, or a pathway to recovery for the traumatized child, depending on your situation.
